Talk to me about a place where you can be yourself.

Easy, at home, surrounded by my loved ones, by the people I trust the most and where I can be my full self without getting any judgment.

What has been your biggest teachable or meaningful moment that you’ve experienced so far?

I have many. One of them was for sure leaving my parents’ house and Venezuela when I was just 17. Coming to college here in the US, it was a big moment to be brave, becoming mature, and being away from my loved ones. That really taught me how to be strong when I needed to be. Responsible, resourceful, but also to know that everything happens for a reason, so that’s why it gets me going every day.

How do you identify and what does your culture mean to you?

Yeah, I am definitely 100% Hispanic. I don’t know if this makes sense, but I still feel like a foreigner here. I speak Spanish around every day with my husband to my dog. My dog only speaks Spanish. It doesn’t know any English; So yeah, I feel like my heart is split in two. Because my heart is in my country with the rest of my family and having the other half of my life here and has been developed here. It makes me proud to be able to have two cultures and to be able to speak and understand two languages.

If you were to win an award, what would be your walk-up song?

That is so funny. This is something that has been playing in my head over and over, again, for the past like two months, so I’m going say Flowers by Miley Cyrus because it’s like, super empowering and cool. And yes, we girls can do everything we want to. We don’t need anybody else.

If you can talk about something for 30 minutes without preparation, what would it be?

Sports! Women in sports. First, I was a college athlete and sports were what brought me to this country in the first place. Sports is how I got to study here in the US with a free education on a full ride scholarship. Sports is the world and pretty much how I got where I am today and of course my efforts.

I like to see women succeeding in sports because sports is a world dominated by men. So, I just love talking about it and proving people that women can be super knowledgeable and successful when it comes to sports.

What sports did you play?

Golf. So weird, huh? I’ve played a bunch of sports growing up, but. OK. I like soccer, swimming, and tennis. Tennis is big in my family and my little brother plays college tennis. It was the very first sport that I tried. But golf just stuck with me and that’s what I played in college. I love it.
