I came from two strong-minded 鈥渙ld school鈥 parents who raised their children as such. I looked up to both my parents, but it was my mother whom I deeply admired. At a young age I did not really know why I admired her; It was not until I was much older.
I remember when my father became very ill and was unable to work for two years, my mom stepped right in and took right over. She took care of my dad, the children (3 of us), the house, and still managed to work her full-time job. She always taught my sister and I submissiveness in a marriage, but 鈥測ou鈥檙e going to know how to do鈥︹ as she would say. She would often tell us 鈥渄on鈥檛 let anyone tell you that you can鈥檛 do because you鈥檙e a girl/woman!鈥
With my upbringing, it was not a big surprise to some family and peers that I would choose to go into the military. With my drive, perseverance, and my 鈥淚 can do that too鈥 attitude, the military was a great fit for me. In the military, there was no such thing as 鈥渕en do this, and women only do that.鈥 We were looked at as equals and did it all. With my mother鈥檚 strong values embedded in me and my military disciplines combined, I have gotten through many hard tasks and life lessons.
What Women鈥檚 History Month means to me鈥
This month we celebrate and bring awareness to all the women who had to endure many disparities and discriminations but managed to triumph through them all. I salute the trailblazing women in the past such as, Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth, Lucy Stone, Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Harriet Tubman, and Alice Paul, who fought for me to have rights, and I salute all the women present who continue to fight for those rights. As women, we have come such a long way to break many stereotypes; mainly, staying at home to take care of the children.
On top of our successes, we still take care of home. I personally salute every woman and continue to fight with you to be seen and HEARD.
Women鈥檚 History Month
Since 1987, Women鈥檚 History Month has been celebrated every March to recognize all women for their valuable contributions to history and society. We honor this celebration by amplifying the voices of women at 性爱巴士 and beyond.
